Green, not yellow

This is how the banana diet works.

Bananas
As with any diet, you should exercise as regularly as possible. (Image: Pexels)

Green bananas contain resistant starch, which keeps blood sugar levels low. This speeds up the fat burning process. This is why on a banana diet you eat green, unripe bananas instead of yellow and ripe ones.

And here's how the diet works:

Eat bananas for breakfast and as a snack between meals.

At breakfast, eat as many bananas as you like until you feel full. Make sure to drink lots of water to aid digestion.

Avoid high-fat foods for lunch.

Dinner is also entirely up to you. But remember: you should eat at least four hours before you go to bed.

As with any diet, you should exercise regularly and keep as active as possible. Clocking up 10,000 steps a day is ideal for most people.

And bananas are good for you in other ways, too: Although they are relatively high in sugar, they don't contain any fat or cholesterol. In fact, bananas are full of healthy nutrients: they are packed with vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium.
