Press release: Compassana and Well to merge, creating Switzerland’s largest digital healthcare platform
Switzerland’s leading digital health platforms, Compassana and Well, are joining forces to form Compassana-Well AG. A shared digital platform will bring together medical information for patients in a single, easily accessible space. The solution will connect the various stakeholders and provide access to the electronic health record (E GD). Existing services for patients, hospitals, physician networks, pharmacies and health insurers will continue to be provided. The project is backed by eleven partners. These include hospitals, healthcare providers, and leading health insurers, which together provide services to around 70 per cent of people insured in Switzerland.

Easier access, clearer navigation and integrated healthcare
Compassana and Well are merging their digital healthcare platforms to form a newly established company Compassana-Well AG . Technological and organisational integration will be carried out on a step-by-step basis. Existing services provided by Compassana and Well will continue to be provided and developed.
The shared platform is designed to support patients throughout their healthcare journey. It will gradually link the various digital touchpoints within the healthcare system – from the initial assessment of symptoms and finding a suitable point of contact, right through to appointment and treatment information, and the secure use of relevant medical data.
“We are combining the strengths of both platforms and laying the foundations for digital access, which will provide people with guidance and facilitate cooperation in the healthcare sector. The focus will be on ease of use, freedom of choice and the responsible management of sensitive medical data,” says Marc Werner, Chairman of the Board of Directors at WELL Gesundheit AG.
Closer cooperation is required to deal with complexity
CSS, DocMorris, Galenica, Groupe Mutuel, Helsana, Hirslanden, Medbase, Swica, Trifork and Visana are all shareholders in Compassana-Well AG, with KPT Health Insurance joining them as a new partner. The affiliated health insurers together provide coverage for around 70 per cent of people insured in Switzerland. The partners combine their expertise in health insurance, outpatient and inpatient care, pharmacy services and technology. Compassana-Well AG sees itself as an open platform, designed to allow additional stakeholders to join.
By joining forces to form Compassana-Well AG, the participating companies are combining their expertise, technologies and investments. In doing so, they aim to reduce overlaps, make more targeted use of resources and develop new functions more swiftly.
“The increasing complexity of the healthcare system calls for consistent cooperation between all stakeholders. By working together, we are helping to advance digitalisation in Switzerland,” says Marcel Napierala, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bluespace Ventures AG, the company behind the Compassana health ecosystem.
Existing solutions for service providers will be maintained and expanded
In addition to the services it provides for patients, Compassana-Well AG will continue to offer solutions for all of its clientele, namely payers and healthcare providers. These include health insurers, hospitals and hospital groups, hospital service areas, physician networks and pharmacies. Ongoing projects, contracts and points of contact will remain in place, and existing solutions will continue to be developed. The merger will broaden the base for these operations: Customers will benefit from access to a wider range of technology, additional specialist expertise, and a larger user community. This expanded offering is a key component of Compassana-Well AG’s strategy.
Integration with the electronic health record and data security
The shared platform is being developed in such a way that it can be connected to the Swiss Health Data Space and planned electronic health record (E-GD). It will not replace the E-GD, rather it will complement it by adding user-centred access points and digital services. This will benefit both patients and healthcare providers because it enables data to be made available even more effectively where it is needed in day-to-day care, while also ensuring that fundamental data protection and security requirements are met.
New company to launch in early 2027
Compassana-Well AG will commence operations on 1 January 2027, pending the necessary regulatory approvals.
