Compassana’s contribution to digital connectivity in the Swiss healthcare system

Due to certain standards, medical data can be exchanged electronically in an efficient manner. Thanks to Compassana’s participation in the FHIR working group of the HL7 User Group Switzerland, the mapping of treatment data has been defined in the FHIR implementation guide CH Core and is now available to the entire Swiss healthcare system.

Compassana has made a significant contribution to interoperability in the Swiss healthcare system. We are actively involved in the FHIR working group of HL7 Switzerland and proposed the integration of treatment data in the FHIR CH Core implementation guide. This means, among other things, that other players in the Swiss healthcare system can now benefit from a uniform and standardised database. This is an important step towards improving interoperability in the Swiss healthcare system.

Our efforts are based on HL7 standards, which play a central role in this process. HL7 (Health Level Seven) refers to a set of international standards that enable the exchange of data between healthcare organisations and their IT systems. One of these healthcare standards is FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources). It is an internationally recognised standard for the modelling and electronic exchange of medical data. The standard enables different systems to exchange medical information efficiently and securely.

The HL7 User Group Switzerland is the local branch that brings together experts from various fields – such as hospitals, medical practices, software providers and authorities – to share their experiences with standards. By participating in the technical committee and its project groups, HL7 users can help shape the standardisation of medical content for Switzerland. The FHIR working group aims to adapt this global standard to the specific needs of Switzerland.

The development of such standards raises important questions: What information is essential for service providers? What data needs to be exchanged to ensure that patient care remains efficient and of high quality?

Based on discussions with service providers, we have contributed our practical experience to the FHIR working group. The focus was on treatment data, i.e. medication information and billing data. The result of this collaboration is a jointly developed application of the FHIR standard, which is now available to all participants. With this contribution, Compassana is strengthening interoperability in the Swiss healthcare system and laying the foundation for better, more efficient and safer healthcare.
